2009-2010 - Theme: "The Heart of Caloosa is the Pride Within!" We are proud to announce our 10th year as an A school! Caloosa has also reached its goal of achieving AYP, Annual Yearly Progress! Go Cougars!!!
2008-2009 - Theme: "Caloosa, Leaders are Launched Here!" The focus of our theme was planned to coincide with NASA's 50th anniversary.
2007-2008 - Theme: "Start Your Engines - Caloosa is Driven to Succeed!" Race cars and victory flags decorated the building this year. Some of the highlights included a radio-controlled car demonstration for our FCAT rally and a BMX show for a successful fundraiser. All classrooms were equiped with and LCD projector and document camera, and there are 37 Smart Boards for classroom use. Due to economic conditions, both the state and district have a budget deficit, but we are maintaining our current staff.2006-2007-Theme: "Kids at Work, Building Better Readers!" Due to Class Size Reduction legislation and continued growing population, a second-story building with 18 additional classrooms was added to our campus. Enrollment continued over 1,000 students, and all eligible staff received STAR incentive pay as our "A" continued with Adequate Yearly Progress met.
2005-2006-Theme: "Cougars Explore More through Caloosa’s Doors". With the addition of Science FCAT testing for 5th graders, the adoption of a new Science textbook for all grade levels was important. Five classrooms added Smart Board technology and several teachers implemented use of classroom responders for tests, quizzes, and mastery of content. Our AR celebrations focused on the early settlement of the West complete with a hayride and fireside storytelling. Caloosa also continued with an "A" state grade!
2004-2005- Theme: "Caloosa Kids Measure Up to Success". The year of the Hurricanes….lost 8 teaching days August-September thanks to Charley, Ivan and Frances. There was very little damage to the building. Co-teaching units to address Class Size Legislation (2 teachers worked in one classroom with a larger class size) increased our teaching staff to 72 to work with 1100 students. Caloosa maintained an “A” but with Provisional AYP due to an increase in FCAT Writes 3.5 basic requirement.
2003-2004-Using the theme-“Today’s Achievers, Tomorrow’s Leaders” Caloosa Elementary maintained an “A” from the state of Florida and made Adequate Yearly Progress under NCLB. Laurie Kagan visited the school in January to assess our capability of becoming a Kagan Cooperative Learning School. Cheryl Steinwand, Assistant Principal, left to return to a classroom before retirement. A.P. Replacement, Shelley Markgraf joined the staff in October for a smooth transition.
2002-2003-"Open a Book, Open your Mind" was our school theme for the year as we adopted a new basal for reading, expanded our Accelerated Reader program and focused on reading achievement throughout the school. Our population remained stable at 1000+ students. An outgrowth of FLARE was a Parent University night where parents attended workshops modeled for them to assist their child in learning.
2001-2002-IDEAS-"Investigate, Discover, Explore, Analyze",-Science was our theme for the year. With the introduction of testing from the state on Science, our curriculum focus needed to include the scientific principles. We were accepted as a FLARE school and formed a Literacy Team.
2000-2001-We moved away from our place in the park and into a brand new, prototype two story building, built for 800, but with 1000 students. “Catch the Magic of Caloosa” was the theme as we established procedures for a smooth running school. Our dedication was held in October and past special people were invited to attend. All students were able to participate through live TV feed and then lined the bus ramp for a chorus of “Proud, Caloosa Cougar.”
